Panel discussion on racial inequities: A Story on Repeat

November 2 @ 6:00 pm UTC-5

The Black Student Association at Pittsburg State University will host a panel discussion, “A Story on Repeat,” at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts at 6 p.m. on Nov. 2. There will be both limited seating for in-person viewing and a livestream for remote viewing.

The discussion will focus on racial tension and racial inequities in the U.S., with the goal of fostering a better understanding of marginalized groups.

“This event is to invite people to continue having discussion on different issues such as redlining, systemic racism, protesting, unity regardless of agreeance, and the power of empathy,” said D’André Phillips, president of the Black Student Association.

The panelists include:
D’Andre Phillips, president of the Black Student Association
Jamie Wood, professor of psychology and counseling
Quentin Turner, patrol officer for the Pittsburg Police Department
Lamour Romine, detective for the Pittsburg Police Department
Jared Bush, secretary of the Gamma Chi Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
The discussion will be moderated by Dana Rae Johnson, community outreach chair for the Black Student Association.

“As panelists, we come from a place of wanting to understand each other rather than debate,” Phillips said. “We want to be able to disagree respectfully while agreeing that this is a problem in our society.”

The discussion will be livestreamed at Facebook.com/bicknellcenter and at pittstate.tv. It will be archived at pittstate.tv for viewing later.

The live audience will be limited to 230 on a first-come, first-serve basis. Masks will be required. RSVP by emailing Emely Flores, assistant director of Student Diversity Programs, at emflores@pittstate.edu
